The Elementary Curriculum

Wednesday, March 9th 2022

7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Curious about Montessori Education in the Elementary Levels (Grades 1-3) and if it is right for your child?

Join Anna Campbell, Director of Programming at Dearcroft Montessori School, for an informative virtual seminar to learn more about Montessori in the older years and why it is your natural choice.

The Elementary aged child is full of awe and wonder about the world in which they live. Our Montessori Elementary Program inspires the love of learning by going beyond the usual goals of skill and development and addressing the development of the whole person. Children who work in our program gain an understanding of the natural world, of human knowledge and of themselves.

The Elementary Program continues to build on the foundation established in Casa, and centres on the Montessori concept of a cosmic curriculum. Aided by a curious mind, developing imagination and ability to absorb large amounts information, the child begins to learn about the universe and his/her place in it. Careful attention is paid to the development of language and mathematical skills. These abilities assist in the integrated areas of history, geography, science, botany, zoology and peace education.

Learn how our teachers guide students through a rigorous curriculum, individually tailored to the student’s interests, needs and abilities. This session will discuss:

  • How our classrooms are prepared environments that are structured to allow for the students to experience freedom within limits.
  • How our students are challenged with individualized programming tailored to their specific need.
  • During the three- year cycle of their academic development in the classroom, our students gain confidence, self-esteem and an impressive level of independence and learning.
  • Student maturity, sense of global awareness and overall citizenship is nurtured and strengthened by their multi-aged experience.
  • Learn about Junior Elementary experiential education field trips.

We welcome friends and family to this seminar and anyone who you think might be interested in learning more about Montessori in the elementary years.

Growing with our community!

We are excited to announce that Dearcroft is growing with our community and opening an additional location this September 2022, in north Oakville.  Dearcroft was founded in 1968 and is one of Canada’s original Montessori schools and is a long-standing pillar of Oakville’s private school community.  This new space will provide an opportunity for more children to learn in our well established Montessori programs.

The Dearcroft Trafalgar Crossing Campus, located at 297 Oak Walk Drive, Oakville, will offer programs from Toddler (18 months – 2.5 yrs), Casa (2.5 – 5 yrs), through to Junior Elementary (Grades 1 -3).

One of the greatest benefits of Montessori education is building real-life skills that carry over when it is time to enter the workforce. Problem-solving, creativity, team work, and responsibility run through the veins of a Montessori child.
